Library Staff:

There is a full-time Children’s Librarian position available at Ogden Farmers’ Library. Anyone who meets the qualifications below is invited to apply. Job Title: ​Librarian

Reports To: Library Director

Work Hours: 52 weeks/year, 6-8 hours/day, 5 days/week (35 hours/week). One evening per week and one or two Saturdays per month.

General Duties:​ The Children’s Librarian focuses on collections and services for patrons from birth through completion of 5th grade. They will be expected to work with the local school librarians to promote Summer Reading and other library events and services.

Librarians provide reference and research assistance to the public. They have collection development duties, with each librarian taking a different area of responsibility (in this case, the children’s collection). They organize programming of public interest, promote the library, and supervise the library in the absence of the director.

Specific Job Duties:
  1. Provide reference services to all patrons over the phone, in person, and via internet
  2. Training patrons in use of library materials
  3. Shift supervision of clerks and pages
  4. Collection development tasks such as purchasing and weeding the collection
  5. Outreach, including creation of promotional materials and visiting other locations to promote the library
  6. Opening and closing the library
  7. Staying up to date on changes in the field of librarianship
  8. Develop and run programming of interest to Ogden youth and families
  9. Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Masters of Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited institution
  • Exemplary customer service skills
  • A passion for working with children
  • Familiarity with all technology currently in use in libraries
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the job
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and complete work assignments independently
  • Willingness to work additional or alternate hours as required
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work well with others

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Previous work experience in this area
  • Subject-matter knowledge in the area of responsibility assigned; specifically, children’s services

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to walk, stand, reach, kneel and bend
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds

Salary: Based on experience, $44,500-$50,000 / yr

Benefits: As an employee working more than 20 hours a week, the position receives 1 X weekly hours per year vacation time and 2 X weekly hours per year PTO. This is usable after 30 days and vacation increases in years 2, 5, 10, and 20.

As a full-time staff member, health insurance is available. Staff member pays 25% of the premium.

An IRA is available, but Ogden Farmers’ Library does not participate in the NYS retirement system.
