History of the Ogden Farmers' Library
1815 – A group of farmers formed the library. It was housed at the home of George W. Willey and contained 100 books donated by the founders.
1876 – A fire destroyed most of the library materials and records.
1902 – John T. Trowbridge writes a letter to the Ogden Centennial, noting how special the library had been to him. This perked interest in recreating the library in the new village building.

1908 – Ogden Farmers’ Library was granted a provisional charter by the state. Harriet Moore was selected as librarian (what we would now call a library director).
1910 – Ogden Farmers’ Library was granted a permanent charter by the state.
1912 – Louise Wilcox and Grace Smith acted as temporary librarians.
1913 – Caroline Bush was appointed librarian.
1915 – The library possessed 2500 books and circulated 13,800 items annually.
1916 – Mina Lapp was appointed librarian.
1929 – Children’s programming began at the library with a Christmas Story Hour. Each child was given a book as a gift.
1946 – Marion Carpenter was appointed librarian.
December, 1948 – A fire ravaged the village building. Smoke, water, and melted bindings ruined much of the library’s collection. The library closed.
October, 1949 – The library reopened. Adelaide Stewart was appointed librarian.
1967 – Louise Campbell was appointed librarian.
1968 – Margaret Stevenson was appointed librarian.
1976 – The library moved to a two-story facility at 14 Amity Street. The collection at this facility included 18,000 items. The Friends of the Library was formed.

1999 – Patty Uttaro was appointed library director.
2007 – The library and director Uttaro play an instrumental role in the development of and opening of The Depot museum. Kay Hughes-Dennett was appointed library director.
2009 – Jen Magee is appointed library director.
2013 – John Cohen is appointed library director.

2015 – The library held a year-long celebration of its Bicentennial.
At time of writing in 2022, the library owns 66,000 items and offers access to 60,000 electronic items. 82,000 items circulated in 2021.
